Personal Experience

During his career, Brian has encountered and closed commercial real estate transactions of all shapes and sizes.  Brian has represented publicly traded corporations, joint ventures and regional property owners in the recapitalization and refinancing of dozens of seniors housing and multi-family properties located across the country.   He also has experience in small matters, such as the acquisition of assemblage parcels for future development.  No matter what the transaction, Brian’s focus is the same: to provide excellent client service, offer creative  and practical solutions  to problems or issues that may arise, and close each transaction in a manner that achieves the best results for his client.

A significant portion of Brian’s practice is devoted to representing owners of senior living facilities.  Brian has closed numerous acquisitions, dispositions, refinancings and recapitalizations of senior living properties, and this experience allows Brian to recognize and address issues particular to senior housing deals and thus avoid unnecessary delay or disruption to the transaction.

Brian represents clients during all phases of commercial property ownership, from creating the legal framework for the ownership entity, through purchase and acquisition financing, development and construction, lease-up and permanent finance, recapitalization and refinancing and, ultimately, sale.  A significant portion of Brian’s day-to-day practice also includes leasing of office, retail, medical and light industrial space.  Brian represents both landlords and tenants in commercial lease negotiations and this exposure to both sides of the table help his clients reach resolution on difficult issues with a minimum of delay.  Brian also has experience in the area of wetland and stream mitigation banking.

Brian earned his Juris Doctor from the College of William & Mary School of Law, where he served as the Executive Editor of the Law Review.  Brian received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Richmond.

Brian is married with two active children.  Brian is a reluctant runner.
